Volunteer Tutors Needed for the YWCA Adult Literacy Program in and around the Tazewell County community and at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI)

The YWCA Pekin Adult Literacy Program, funded by a grant awarded by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a division of the Office of the Secretary of State, using state funds designated for literacy, is accepting applications for volunteer tutors for many available program options and locations.  All training is of no cost to the volunteer tutor.  There is also never a cost to any adult learner that is served through this program.

The adult volunteer tutors will help adults in and around Tazewell County, IL achieve their goals through one-to-one tutoring assistance in areas of reading, writing, math, English as a second language (ESL), financial literacy, and other life skills.

The YWCA Pekin Adult Literacy Program is also seeking adult tutors to conduct volunteer Adult Continuing Education classes at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) and/or book clubs at the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) for females.  In addition to state funds, this offering is made possible due to a generous donation from Barbara Glick/Glick Endowment Fund to the YWCA Pekin Adult Literacy Program.  To expand our offerings at FCI/FPC, we are seeking additional tutors to conduct and develop a variety of different classes and book clubs.  If you have the desire and passion for this, please contact us today to get the mandatory requirements and training completed prior to 2019.

We are always accepting adult learners and volunteer tutors to our program as well as monetary and in-kind donations.  If mailing a donation in, please make check payable to YWCA ADULT LITERACY PROGRAM and mail to YWCA Pekin Adult Literacy Program, ATTN:  Tonja Ohnemus, 315 Buena Vista Ave., Pekin, IL  61554.  You may reach us by phone 309-347-2104 ext 4023 or 4040 or via email to the Program Director at tonjao@ywcapekin.org
