Illinois 9 at U.S. 24 to close June 18 for pavement work

The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that Illinois 9 just east of the intersection with U.S. 24 will close to all traffic beginning Monday, June 18.

The closure is necessary for pavement reconstruction adjacent to the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. Access to businesses will be maintained during the project, which is expected to be completed by June 26, weather permitting.

A detour will be posted for motorists to use Interstate 474.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
