REALTORS® are primarily known for helping people buy and sell homes. They are also property owners biggest political advocates.
The Peoria Area Association of REALTORS® (PAAR) advocates for policy initiatives at the local, state and federal level that promote and protect a fundamentally sound and dynamic local real estate market. Members are constantly monitoring issues related to homeownership, real estate tax policies, regulations & ordinances, credit & lending policies, insurance and other policies.
“PAAR members maintain relationships with policymakers on all levels—local, state and federal; monitoring issues impacting property owners,” states Dallas Hancock, CEO, Peoria Area Association of REALTORS®. “This includes advocating for laws and regulations that protect our private property rights as well as conducting studies & legal analysis, public opinion surveys and data analysis on issues impacting our communities.”
With over 700 REALTOR® members and approximately 145 Affiliates, PAAR provides a wide variety of resources to foster and harness grassroots efforts that help educate public officials. PAAR members serve as the Voice for Real Estate in Central Illinois, advocating for consumer-friendly real estate policies; opposing measures that could hurt property owners and future buyers.
Through the collected efforts of PAAR, Illinois REALTORS®, and The National Association of REALTORS®, homeowner’s issues are constantly in front of the city, county, state and federal officials. Area legislators agree these advocacy efforts keep them better informed on issues and are paramount to moving central Illinois communities forward.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
