Pekin Main Street Halloween Fun Fair

Halloween will be celebrated in downtown Pekin on Saturday, October 19th with Pekin Main Street’s Halloween Fun Fair and Downtown Trick or Treating.

From 10:00am to 12noon, children and family members are invited to trick or treat at participating downtown merchants. Participating merchants will have a sign denoting that they are welcoming trick or treaters.

The courthouse square will be bustling with activity from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm as well.  A&W’s Rooty the Root Beer Bear and other mascots from area businesses will be on hand to interact with children.  Pekin Fire Department and Pekin Police Department will have vehicles on site for children to see.  There will be games to play on the courthouse lawn and on Capitol Street. The Speakeasy Art Center will be hosting pumpkin decorating and there will also be cookie decorating, the Unique Twist Balloon Artist and an inflatable slide.

The Halloween Fun Fair and Downtown Trick or Treating is sponsored by A&W of Pekin, Trouble Free, Inc., Kiwanis Club of Pekin, Pekin Tourism, Attorney Dale Thomas, First Pekin Savings Bank and the Speakeasy Art Center.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
