Pekin Main Street to Host July Jubilee Carnival

Pekin Main Street will be hosting a carnival as part of the first ever July Jubilee, July 4th-July 7th in downtown Pekin. This family friendly event will feature rides, games and food by Miller Spectacular Shows.

The carnival will be on the empty lot formerly home to Vogel’s Grocery store on 2nd Street and Sabella Streets in downtown Pekin. Visitors are encouraged to park in the vacant lot closes to the T-Shirt House and in the lot at Riverfront Park. Hours for the Carnival are: July 4th – 4:00pm-11:00pm, July 5th – 4pm-10pm, July 6th – 3:00pm-11pm and July 7th – 1pm-10pm.

A portion of the proceeds from the carnival will be donated back to Pekin Main Street, a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization with a mission to preserve, restore and revitalize downtown Pekin.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
