1st Annual Tazewell County Wine & Beer Festival

The Tazewell County Jaycees and the Avanti’s Dome are teaming up to present the 1st Annual Tazewell County Wine and Beer Festival.  The event will be held at the Dome on Friday, February 25th from 5 pm until 11 pm.  The hit local band, The Willies, will be playing from 7 pm – 11 pm.  Attendees will have the opportunity to sample many different wines and international beers for 75 cents a pop.
Tickets are $10 and will include entrance to the event and two drink tickets.  The first 350 people will also receive a free souvenir wine glass.   Tickets will be sold at local establishments, including all Avanti’s locations.   A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Children’s Hospital of Central Illinois.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
