The unemployment rate in Pekin dropped to 11.9% in August according to information from the Illinois Department of Employment Security.  The rate last month was 12.8%, while the August 2009 rate was 13.2%. 
According to the Illinois Department of Revenue, sales tax receipts distributed to Pekin in September were 6.7% greater than the same month a year ago. 
The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.3 percent in August on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 1.1 percent before seasonal adjustment.
