26th Annual Peoria RibFest and Chili Cook-off

The 26th annual  Peoria RibFest and Chili Cook-off - Friday – Saturday, October 1st  and 2nd, 2010 at the Peoria Riverfront. Vendors, including Rib & Chili Vendors, will be available.  New this year is the 1stAnnual RibFest CORNBAGS CHALLENGE.

Live entertainment is scheduled to perform during the event on Friday & Saturday.  Admission on Friday is $5.00 from 5 until 10 PM.   There is no admission to the event on Saturday. Tickets for entertainment on the CEFCU Stage on Saturday night for the Emmit-Nershi Band are $15.00 in advance http://www.riverfrontmusic.com/ or $20.00 at the gate.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
