Heart Walk needs your support!

The American Heart Association’s Start! Heart Walk needs your support!

On Saturday, October 9, 2010, the American Heart Association will hold its annual Start! Heart Walk for the area. This year's walk will be held at the Laura Bradley Park in Peoria. The Start! Heart Walk is a healthy, fun, family and community event. It promotes exercise as part of a heart-healthy lifestyle and raises funds for research and programs to fight cardiovascular disease. It is estimated that 80 million Americans (1 in 3 people) are affected by cardiovascular disease. It is our nation’s #1 killer and cardiovascular disease is the cause of 31% of the deaths in McLean County. It is the mission of the American Heart Association to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke and the Start! Heart Walk is our first step in doing that.

You probably know someone suffering from heart disease, stroke or other cardiovascular disease. Most of us do. To help these people — and to help protect our loved ones — we all need to get involved.

We would like to put together as many teams as possible from different business to come together as a larger Team Pekin! This is a very worthy cause with a goal of raising $20,000 from Pekin. We count on the support of the entire community to help us reach this goal.

I hope you will strongly consider supporting this event. Cardiovascular diseases and stroke threaten all Americans, but we can help our families, friends, neighbors and others in our community by giving generously to reduce disability and save lives.

If you would like to put together a team or need more information please feel free to contact Lea Taylor, our local representative from the American Heart Association at 309-648-8697 or lea.taylor@heart.org.
