Pekin Public Library Hosting Holiday Bazaar

The Pekin Public Library is hosting their second annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, November 14 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. in the library's Community Room. Get a jump start on your holiday shopping at this one-stop shopping extravaganza. A variety of vendors will sell items such as jewelry, kitchen ware, home interiors, children's items, and more. There will also be a bake sale, raffles, door prizes and complimentary refreshments. A Children's Corner will offer games and face painting to entertain the kids while the parents are shopping.

Raffle Prizes will be on display in the library lobby from October 30 to November 13, and raffle tickets can be purchased in advance of the bazaar during regular library hours. Raffle and door prize winners will be notified immediately following the bazaar. This event helps raise funds to improve library service to the community. Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
