GOODWILL RECEIVES AWARD FOR HELPING HOMELESS VETERANS

Goodwill’s Stand Down for Homeless Veterans event has been awarded the 2018 Community Health Award from the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria. The award is given to one individual and one organization for their promotion of health in Central Illinois.
Goodwill’s Stand Down for Homeless Veterans is an annual event that provides food, winter clothing and supplies, educational seminars and medical services to homeless veterans. This year is the 10th anniversary of the event and will take place on Saturday, October 6 at Dozer Park
in Peoria. During the 2017 Stand Down, Goodwill and participating social services agencies assisted 195 homeless veterans.
“The much-needed resources and support provided annually by this program to homeless veterans was deemed to be awe-inspiring by members of the committee,” said Sara Rusch, M.D., regional dean of the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria.
The award will be presented at the College of Medicine’s 10th Annual Celebration of Excellence ceremony on October 30, 2018.
Goodwill’s free programs are possible through the sale of your donated items. Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois serves 21 counties within Central Illinois.
