Chamber Meets With Unes

Representatives of the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce's Transportation Committee recently met with newly elected State Representative Mike Unes at his district office at 19 S. Capitol in Pekin.  Unes represents Illinois' 91st District, which includes parts of Fulton, Peoria, and Tazewell County.  Pictured with Representative Unes are Transportation Committee Chairman Rich Kriegsman and Vice-Chairman Dennis Kief.  The purpose of the meeting was to bring Representative Unes up to date on Pekin's Veteran's Drive project.  For the past 17 years the Chamber's Transportation Committee has been the leading advocate for improvements to the area's transportation infrastructure.  In particular, the committee has worked closely with the City of Pekin, Tazewell County, Illinois and U.S. elected officials and staff on the construction of Veteran's Drive.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
