R. David Tebben Community Leadership Academy Week 3: TCRC & City Tour

Week 3 of the R. David Tebben Community Leadership Academy started on Tuesday with a visit to TCRC located on Rt. 9. Jamie Durdel, President & CEO and Greg Cassidy, Senior VP of Program Services, explained the mission and vision of TCRC and the services they provide to our community as well as their clients. TCRC offers a wide array of programs and services that benefit persons with developmental disabilities and visual impairments who live and work in our community. Tazewell County is fortunate to have this service available to our residents.  photos available here

Thursday the class climbed on a school bus for a City Tour. This tour included the Waste Water plant, the Pekin Municipal Airport, Pekin Street Department and the Communication Center. Todd Dugan was able to showcase the hanger at the Pekin Airport and explain the importance of this local asset. photos available here

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
