47th Annual Pekin AMBUCS Charity Auction

The 47th annual public auction will be on Friday, May 4th in the Veterans Memorial Arena in Mineral Springs Park in Pekin.  Auction starts promptly at 5 p.m.  As in past years a dozen or more auctioneers and their helpers are donating their time and talent to auction off new items and gift certificates donated by local merchants, used items from an automobile to dishes, celebrity items from the sports and entertainment world, and lots of great food like butterfly pork chop sandwiches, strawberry shortcake, pies, and more.  Chairman Jay Hall's goal this year is to raise $35,000 for more than two dozen local charities and non-profit organizations.  Free parking and free admission.  Come for the fun and leave with the bargains.  Go to pekinambucs.org for a complete list of auction items updated daily.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
