Pekin Hospital Offering Diabetes Education Classes

Pekin Hospital is offering a three-day workshop on diabetes education June 8-10 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The interactive sessions will take place in the 4 South Education Classroom on the hospital’s campus at 600 South 13th Street.
Workshop topics will include nutrition, monitoring, medications, exercise and healthy habits. The registration fee is $75, and class sizes are limited. Registration is required by calling 309-353-0719 no later than June 1.
Part of Progressive Health Systems, Pekin Hospital offers the diabetes workshop as part of its ongoing commitment to community health. For more information visit pekinhospital.org.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
