GOODWILL TO HONOR VETERANS WITH PATRIOTS WEEKEND

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold a Patriots Weekend in September of 2015. Two events will be dedicated to honoring and serving our veterans.
Goodwill will hold its second annual Reception of Honor at Goodwill Commons on Friday, September 11. The event will honor the memory of General Wayne A. Downing and recognize local military personnel, veterans, family members and supporting organizations.
On Saturday, September 12, Goodwill’s Forward March & Run will be held on the Peoria Riverfront. The event gives people of all fitness levels a chance to run or walk alongside
veterans, active military members and their families. The race begins at the Gateway Building and features a unique opening ceremony and post race celebration. Participants can choose from a two-mile march, a four-mile run or an eight-mile run.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
