Pekin Hospital Auxiliary Announces Scholarship Recipients

The Pekin Hospital Auxiliary held its Annual Tea on June 17 and awarded financial assistance to seven area students pursuing careers in health-related fields.  The 2014 recipients are: Lindsay Beyer of Pekin; Hannah Booker of Peoria; Madeline Hopkins of Green Valley; Taylor Lamberson of Pekin; April Najpaver of Pekin; Sean Zwicky of Pekin; and Jeanette McIntyre of Manito.

The Pekin Hospital Auxiliary was established in 1941 to provide service to Pekin Hospital. The financial assistance program began in 1962 to provide assistance to local students pursuing careers in health care.


Assistance funds are raised through the Auxiliary’s annual holiday bake sale, raffle, and other Auxiliary fundraisers.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
