Dirksen Center Elects New Board Members and Officers

The Dirksen Congressional Center’s Endowment Fund membership elected new members and officers to the Board of Directors at its recent annual meeting.  Joining the Board are Kimberly Remmert, PHR, Director of Human Resources, Pekin Insurance Company; Dr. Timmothy J. Schwartz, Dentist, Pekin; and Ms. Leslie K. Weyhrich, CPA and Partner, Wolf, Tesar & Company, P.C., Pekin. Jeff Bernstein, Professor of Political Science, Eastern Michigan University and Drew Leman, Vice President, Leman Property Management Company, completed their two terms on the Board.

The following Directors were elected as officers:  President, William T. Fleming, Executive Director, Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce; Vice President, Louis E. Miller, Attorney, Bagley and Miller Attorneys, Pekin; Secretary, Sue Ann Kortkamp, retired, Pekin; Treasurer, Dr. Michael D. Danner, Dentist, Pekin.

The Dirksen Congressional Center is a private, nonpartisan, non-profit research and educational institution whose mission is to help people better understand the U.S. Congress and its leaders.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
