Pekin Main Street will be kicking off the holiday season on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 5:00-8:00 at the annual Christmas on Court event in downtown Pekin.
Candle-lit luminaries will line the streets of downtown Pekin and will surround the Tazewell County Courthouse. Carriage rides will be available starting at Pekin Community Bank ($1.00 per person) and at the corner of Court & Capitol Streets. Several downtown businesses will be open with refreshments, specials and other fun things. Visitors are invited to participate in the sock monkey scavenger hunt – sock monkeys will be visiting businesses and hanging out in store windows – find the monkeys and enter to win prizes from downtown merchants. Santa Claus will be stationed at Pekin Community Bank to visit with children.
The Community Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will take place at 5:30 on the median at Five Points (by Pekin Community Bank, First Pekin Savings Bank and St. Joseph Church). All community members are invited to attend. Our 2013 Spirits of Christmas will light the tree. Each year, Pekin Main Street will nominate a person or persons who have made a positive impact on our downtown community to serve as the Spirit of Christmas.
Children of all ages will be able to meet various Holiday Characters and pick up an autograph book to get signatures from Frosty the Snowman (First Pekin Savings Bank), Mrs. Claus & Elf (Speakeasy Art Center), Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (Pekin Daily Times) and the Grinch (Arcade Building/Pekin Main Street Office).
