Pekin Hospital League Presents Check

The Pekin Hospital League held their annual meeting February 4 and presented a check to Pekin Hospital CEO Gary L. Jepson for $137,500. The contribution will be used to support the Critical Care Unit monitoring system at Pekin Hospital.

The following new officers for 2013 were also announced.
President: Georgia Gschwend
Vice President: Carol Guenther
Recording Secretary: Claudia Bill
Treasurer: Kathie Sayles
Corresponding Secretary: Connie Kilhoffer

Shirley Williams was recognized as the League member with the most volunteer hours for 2012.

Founded in 1958, the Hospital League was comprised of 38 women. Over the years, the League has contributed over $4.5 million towards patient care. Today, the League has 85 active members, 6 provisional, 56 sustaining, 32 sustaining life members, and 21 non-resident members. In the past year, the League has contributed 10,392 hours, and manages the Pekin Hospital Gift Shop located in the Hospital Lobby and the Nearly-Nu Shop located on Derby Street.

Other fundraising events include the annual Golf Classic, scheduled for May 6, 2013, and the Holiday Magic Gift Show scheduled for November 2, 2013.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
