Goodwill to Offer Free Workshops for Veterans and Veterans' Families

Goodwill of Central Illinois will offer free informational workshops to veterans and their families beginning in February. The workshops will cover a variety of topics and run throughout the year. The first workshop will be held on February 13, 2013. They will be held at Goodwill’s temporary administrative offices, 8400 N. Allen Road in Peoria.

The free workshops include Understanding Your Veterans Benefits, Living with PTSD, Creating a Resume and Preparing for an Interview. CEFCU will present financial workshops including The Basics of Personal Finance, Checking 101, Building a Better Budget and more.

“This is a great way for us to assist our veterans and their families with topics that affect their everyday lives,” said Bill Bontemps, Goodwill’s Director of Vocational Services. “These workshops are an example of how your donations change lives.”

Goodwill of Central Illinois is a non-profit organization that provides job training, career and vocational services to veterans, individuals and families who are working to better their lives. Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
