Christmas on Court

We are gearing up to welcome Christmas into downtown Pekin with our annual Christmas on Court event on November 30, 2012. We will have an inaugural lighting ceremony that evening for our new Community Christmas Tree. The tree will be located in the Five Points Median (right near St. Joseph's Church, Pekin Community Bank and First Pekin Savings Bank).

Christmas on Court will still feature business open houses, luminaries, horse drawn carriage rides and music by various community groups. Don't forget about Santa Claus! He will be at Pekin Community Bank that evening to visit with local children and pose for pictures.

Also, PCHS art students will be carrying on the tradition of painting windows of downtown businesses. This year's theme is "Christmas Carols". We are excited about this year's events. Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
