JOHN SELBURG OPENING!! OCTOBER 29th, 5-8pm
Our exhibit this month features the artwork of John Selburg. John attended his undergraduate training at Bradley University. His major was in Drawing, Sculpture and Graphic Design. He received his Master's Degree in Drawing from the University of Missouri. He has a graphic novel in the process of being published. He is currently working full-time on creating a wordless illustrated novel and a number of shorts. You can get a sneak peak at Johns work by visiting www.johnselburg.com. However its NOTHING like seeing these amazing works in person. His work is up this entire month so visit us soon!!! The artists reception will be held on Oct 29th from 5-8pm. Its free and EVERYONE is welcome.

FREAKERS BALL HALLOWEEN PARTY!! OCTOBER 30th, 5pm-12am
Speakeasy Art Center & Bottoms Up want to bring you an evening of FREAKY FUN! We will  have live music and  a DJ, a cash bar, costume contest, door prizes & a ghoulish good time!! So don't forget to mark your calendars for October 30th from 8pm-12am & pick out your costume…you wont want to miss this one! Tickets are only $3 and are available at Speakeasy, Bottoms Up, and at the door that night!

COONEY & MIALKOWSKI OPENING!! NOVEMBER 5TH, 5pm-8pm
All through the month of November you can visit the amazing work of Eric Cooney (photographer/sculptor/painter) & Gene Mialkowski (sculptor). Eric Cooney's work brings to life extraordinary beauty from ordinary places. Focusing in industrial abstract photography, his work always leaves you with a sense of wonder and intrigue. Gene Mialkowski works primarily in steel. He has an amazing ability to make heavy,metal sculpture feel as weightless as ribbons. This show is a MUST-SEE so come join us to kick off the exhibit on November 5th from 5-8pm.

LISTEN TO THE SOUNDS!!! EVERY WEDNESDAY NIGHT, 6:30-11pm
We are also excited to let the public know that EVERY Wed. night from 6:30-11p you can come hang out at Speakeasy and listen to THE DIRTY GENTLEMAN jam and practice!! They call their unique sound Indie-ish Rock! ARE YOU CURIOUS??? You should be!! Come out and listen to what all the fuss is about!
OPEN STUDIO!!! THURSDAYS (starting Oct 28th) 6-8pm
Open studio is free and open to everyone! This is simply an environment for artists of all kinds to work in. You can...paint, write, sculpt, knit, take photographs, play an instrument, rehearse a play, practice poetry, ANYTHING & EVERYTHING you can dream up!!! Our goal is to create an atmosphere that kicks your creative juices into HIGH GEAR!!! So come out and surround yourself with inspiration and channel it right into your work!

Local High School to Win a SMART Board in 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
