Center for Prevention of Abuse to Offer Parking Lot Security ProgramTo Help Keep Shoppers and Workers Safe

With robberies of women in parking lots reported in the Peoria area, The Center for Prevention of Abuse will offer a free two hour training to maximize safety for individuals as they enter their cars after shopping or work. The program will take place, Tuesday, Dec.1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at The Center for Prevention of Abuse, 720 W. Joan Ct. Nancee Brown, Rape Aggression Defense instructor, will conduct the training and offers the following safety tips for people to follow in parking lots:

* Scan your environment. If you see someone loitering near your car, don't enter alone. Go back to the store or your workplace and ask for someone to go with you.

* Once you load packages in your car, even if they are hidden in the trunk, leave the parking lot. You can be observed and your packages stolen when you re-enter the stores.

* Don't linger in your car after you enter. This is not the time to make cell phone calls or run through lists of errands. A person sitting alone in a parked vehicle is a target for robbers.

To learn more about safe behaviors, plan to attend the session. The program is free, but seating is limited so please call 691-0551 to reserve a place.
