 Pekin's Rocktober Contest Returns Pekin, IL - Seeing something spooky in your neighborhood? The City of Pekin’s Beautification Committee is hosting the annual Rocktober Award contest. Nominate a home or business today for their outstanding display of Fall, Halloween, or Thanksgiving-themed property décor.   Pekin’s Rocktober Awards are open to all Pekin home and business owners. Properties entered for competition must be within the Pekin city limits and comply with the City's Code of Ordinances. Home or business owners may apply on their own behalf or nominate another property they consider festive. By self-nominating or by accepting a nomination, you grant the City of Pekin the right to publicly use your name, address, and photographs of your property.   The Rocktober Awards will recognize those with the best Fall, Halloween or Thanksgiving-themed decorations on their homes or businesses.   Illinois 9/Springfield Road work begins Oct. 12     TREMONT  – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that removal and replacement of overhead lighting at the intersection of Illinois 9 and Springfield Road, west of Tremont in Tazewell County, begins Oct. 12.     The work will require daily lane closures and is expected to last about three weeks.     Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. GOODWILL ANNOUNCES 2021 PATRIOT AWARD RECIPIENTS   Peoria, IL – October 13, 2021 – Goodwill of Central Illinois held its 8th annual Patriot Awards Tuesday October 12, at Goodwill Commons in Peoria. Each year the organization presents awards for patriotism to a veteran, a citizen, an organization, and an active member of the military.  This year’s event was held in the Goodwill Commons warehouse. This was done for two reasons. One, to increase social distancing and ventilation. The second was to show the preparation and staging area for this year’s Stand Down for Veterans. This event will also be held in the Goodwill Commons warehouse.  22VA took home the Business/Association Patriot Award. Crystal Smith was presented with the Patty Fuchs Citizen Patriot Award. Lt Col Scott Grotbo received the Military Patriot Award. Joe Sharpe garnered the Veteran Patriot Award. Finally, the coveted General Wayne A.
