Illinoisans Leave Labor Force
The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) recently announced the unemployment rate in Illinois for the month of June has decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 6.2 percent. IDES noted a contributing factor to the decreased rate is a decline in the labor force. In other words, many Illinoisans have given up on searching for employment.
The report also pointed out that the state has lost more than 9,000 manufacturing jobs just over the last year.
Industry sectors that gained employment in the month of June were: Professional and Business Services (+3,000); Financial Activities (+1,700) and Other Services (+1,500). Industries that declined in employment were: Educational and Health Services (-7,300) and Trade Transportation and Utilities (-1,000).
