The June Puttin' On Pekin breakfast was held on Friday the 13th, but it was a lucky start to the day for the 70 chamber members and guests in attendance. Lora Jacobs presented the Sunshine Award to Teresa Tucker for her volunteer work with the Alzheimer's Association. Leon Edwards earned the early award for arriving first. Drew Leman accepted the Spotlight on Business Award on behalf of Leman Property Management. The Sabella Street Station was presented with a Blue Ribbon Award for their remodeling efforts at the old Elks Lodge in downtown Pekin. The featured program was Pekin's July 4th celebration, presented by Steve Brown.  Jackie Schillinger won the late prize.  You can see more pictures from this event at:  http://picasaweb.google.com/PekinChamber

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
