Free Marigold Seeds Available

Spring has FINALLY sprung! It’s time to get our flowers in the ground and help bring color into our community! The Chamber would like to help you do that by offering FREE Jedi Orange Marigold Seeds on a first come first serve basis.  There are 500 packets available and you can pick them up at the Pekin Chamber office at 402 Court St., or at the Pekin Daily Times 306 Court St. A special thanks to AMERISEED for the generous donation of seeds.

40 Years of Service Continues in Pekin; 16 Jobs Saved; Expansion Underway

(Springfield, Il)...... Every day for over 40 years the lights turned on and the doors opened for business at Godfather's Pizza in Pekin.  40 years of memories and traditions nearly came to an end as Godfather's Pizza in Pekin was going to go dark on May 25, 2014. Godfather's Pizza located inside Market Square is the only Godfather's Pizza Corporate store left in Central Illinois.  The corporation based in Omaha, Nebraska was making plans to close the store location at the end of this month.  However, a deal was struck and the tradition will continue in Pekin and several jobs have been saved. Springfield, Illinois Based Franchise owners Mike Monseur and John Leskovisek bought the Pekin location and plan to keep it open.  The two own and operate the Godfather's Pizza locations in Springfield, Chatham and Decatur Illinois. Local High School to Win a SMART Board in 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters.
