Pekin Municipal Airport Receives Illinois General Aviation Airport of the Year Award
Illinois’ Division of Aeronautics recognizes airport manager Todd Dugan and the Pekin Municipal Airport for redevelopment improvements and overall contribution to Illinois airspace community.
Pekin, IL- This month Pekin Municipal Airport was
recognized as the 2020 Illinois General Aviation Airport of
the Year.

“When I was hired, the airfield was in
rough shape, the taxiway lights did not work, the runway lights were about to
give out, and the runway needed replaced,” states Todd Dugan. Todd Dugan has
served as the airport’s manager for approximately four years now. His knowledge
of the industry and diligence to work with multiple agencies has elevated the
airport in numerous ways.
Dugan says, “It amazing how much the
airfield has improved in just four years and the change in perception of the
airport in the community… From a dilapidated airfield to Illinois General
Aviation Airport of the Year!”
Todd Dugan reflects the recent
improvements to Pekin Municipal Airport could not have been made possible
without the support of the Mayor and City Council, City Manager, the Airport
Commission, and an active tenant base. Dugan has also helped to secure grant
funding toward facility redevelopment. Redevelopment will now focus on
expansion, bringing more airplanes to the field: increasing hangar rental
income, fuel sales and operations.
“We now have a brand-new runway, LED
runway and taxiway lights and hangar development on the horizon for the first
time in 30 years. We are also home to Tarragon Aircraft USA. This is a Latvian
Aircraft and we are the sole dealer in North America,” remarks Dugan.
The airport also recently hosted their 8th
Wings and Wheels event. Patrons were able to tour several small aircrafts that
are home to the airport, have short airplane rides around the area and check
out dozens of vintage and custom cars.
The airport has a multitude of benefits
such as low gas prices, no landing fees, and no short-term tie-down/parking
fees. Feel free to use the provided courtesy car or take advantage of the free
coffee, popcorn, pilot lounge, wireless access, and vending machines. For more
