 Greater Peoria Area Focuses on Putting Central IL Back to Work


Co-sponsored by the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce, along with the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council, Discover Peoria, Goodwill, CareerLink, and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the Greater Peoria Hiring Extravaganza will take place on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

The concept is simple: on September 1, each participating organization will place purple balloons outside of their business to signify they are actively hiring! An ongoing list of participating businesses is maintained on the GPEDC website. Upon registration, companies will be added to this list provided this form is completed, confirming your participation prior to August 16th.

Media coverage will be key in the success of the Hiring Extravaganza and attracting qualified candidates. Spread the word throughout your communication channels by utilizing:

  • Social Media (your Facebook and/or Instagram page)
  • Your website
  • Business partners and contacts via email
  • Customers – walk in or virtual

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
