Hanson received three Public Works Project of the Year awards in the transportation category. The first, under the division for projects that cost $25 million to less than $75 million, is for the Champaign-Urbana Area Multimodal Corridor Enhancement (MCORE) project in Champaign, Illinois. Hanson worked on this project as part of a joint venture with Clark Dietz Inc. to prepare a project development study and project plans, specifications and estimates for roadway improvements to key urban transportation corridors in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign district.
The second, under the division for projects that cost $5 million to less than $25 million, is for the Rev. Jon A. Sibley Sr. Underpass in Galesburg. The underpass is the third component of a multipart plan, providing enhanced traffic flow throughout downtown Galesburg, as well as improved emergency response time and traffic and train safety. Hanson provided project development and planning services for the new grade separation structure.
The third award, under the division for projects that cost less than $5 million, is for the reconstruction of Allen Road and Willow Knolls Drive in Peoria. The intersection of Allen and Willow Knolls is one of Peoria’s busiest, with more than 32,000 vehicles traveling it per day. The newly designed intersection features a mix of barrier and painted left-turn medians to allow for safer left-turns — reducing the potential for accidents. Hanson completed preliminary design and construction documents, traffic studies, public involvement, environmental clearances and land acquisition services.
The American Public Works Association (www.apwa.net) is a not-for-profit, international organization of more than 30,000 members involved in the field of public works. APWA supports those who operate, improve and maintain public works and infrastructure through advocacy, education and member engagement.
Hanson is a national, employee-owned consulting firm providing engineering, planning and allied services. The firm’s corporate headquarters is located at 1525 S. Sixth St., Springfield, IL 62703. The office may be reached by phone at (217) 788-2450.
