New Exhibits Scheduled to Open in ICC Art Galleries in October

               Two new exhibits open in mid-October in the Illinois Central College art galleries, located on the East Peoria Campus.

               <anima-animus-persona>, an exhibit by Yun Jeong Hong, opens October 15 in Gallery 336B, located in the Academic Building. A meet and greet is scheduled on that date in the gallery from noon to 2 pm, along with an artist talk starting at 12:30 pm.

               In addition, Anthropozoa, an exhibit of the art of Jacob Guzan, opens October 17 in the Performing Arts Center Gallery, located in the lobby of the facility.

               Hong was born in South Korea. She received her bachelor of fine arts degree in 2005 from Seoul Women's University and her master of fine arts degree from the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign in 2010. Her works involve writing, drawing, sculpture, installation, video and performance. To perceive how historical contexts are constructed through narration, she focused on writings with layers of recursive citations as an undergraduate. During her graduate studies, she explored life of objects in institutional spaces such as a museum by placing fake collections among real ones. In 2012, as part of her long-standing interest in relation between mind and body, she directed a performance to investigate the flow of mind by spoken language and body movement.

               Guzan earned both bachelor of science and bachelor of fine arts degrees from Bradley University in 2014. He earned his master of fine arts degree at West Virginia University, in Morgantown, WV. He was awarded the Dow P. Mitchell Endowed Printmaking Scholarship for 2011-2014. While at Bradley, he served as a letterpress/book arts assistant in the Gold Quoin Press, helping to edition Unclose the Door, a book of Laura Madeline Wiseman’s poems. He also served as an intern at the Backspace Collective Gallery, as press assistant to Oscar Gillespie, helping to edition Get it Out of My Head by Robert Ernst Marx, and as art editor of Broadside Literary & Arts Journal. He is currently an artist-in-residence at the Prairie Center of the Arts and an affiliate instructor at Bradley, where he teaches Drawing II.

               Both exhibits run through November 9.

               Hours of operation for Gallery 336B are Monday through Thursday, from 9 am to 5 pm and Friday from 9 am to noon. The Performing Arts Center Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 am to 7:30 pm, and Friday from 9:30 am to noon. In addition, the Performing Arts Center Gallery also is accessible when the Performing Arts Center is open for public events. Operation of all galleries varies with ICC’s holidays and breaks.

               The exhibits are presented by the ICC Art Program and the Arts at ICC. The Arts at ICC has a rich history of enhancing the arts community and expanding education beyond the classroom. Arts at ICC presents more than 500 exhibits, performances, lectures, rehearsals, meetings, master classes, clinics, seminars, receptions, orientations, forums, auditions and tournaments annually.

Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
