First Baptist Church of Pekin Welcomes New Pastor

First Baptist Church of Pekin, is excited to announce Vernon Risner has accepted the position as our senior pastor.

Veron is married to Melissa and they have 2 daughters, Lydia (9) and Karis (7).

Vernon is a graduate of Miami University of Ohio and Moody Bible Theological Seminary. He became a member of FBC pf Franklin when he was 19 years old. At 23 he was called to be their Associate/Youth Pastor. Then, in 2001, he assumed responsibilities of Senior Pastor.

Vernon and Melissa both strongly felt that this was God’s call on them to make this move in their lives.

Vernon’s first Sunday in the pulpit will be August 20th, same day as the Back to School Cruise-In/Carnival.



Vern’s greatest hope is to help First Baptist of Pekin be a light and a hope to people in our community and to share the good news of Jesus Christ. First Baptist of Pekin is very much looking forward to having Vernon and Melissa and their daughters become a part of the community here in Pekin, as well as at First Baptist Church.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
