The June 9 Puttin' On Pekin breakfast was held at the Avanti's Dome. The Pekin 1st Committee, a committee of the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce presented several awards.  Heidi Hutchison presented Robert Brott and Bruce Hoerr the Spotlight on Business Award for Winpak Heat Seal Corporation.  John Plunkett presented a Blue Ribbon Award to Danny and Cindy Bonnette for their work in upgrading the Vinyl Art Studio in downtown Pekin.  Manda Brown presented a Blue Ribbon Award to Craig Stuber for their remodeling efforts at Stuber Heating and Air on South 14th.  Debbie Fornoff gave the Sunshine Award to Cindy Justus who heads up the UnityPoint Health - Pekin mission trips. 

Pekin Mayor John McCabe introduced the speaker, Tony Carson.   He has been the Pekin City Manager for about 6 months.  Mr. Carson reviewed some of the projects the city has recently worked on, and previewed some of the road resurfacing projects scheduled for this summer.

Greg Ranney was the emcee and he presented Baylee Gambetti with the late prize.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
