Bailey Haynes provided holiday music entertainment to over 80 chamber members and guests who attended the December 11th Puttin' On Pekin breakfast at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Rich Jordan was the first to arrive and won the Early Prize, while Deb Mahoney earned the Late Prize. Both of these prizes were sponsored by Malinda Grafelman and Pet Supplies Plus. The Blue Ribbon Award was presented to Jeff Brooks from the Pekin Public Library for their remodeling project. The Sunshine Award was presented to Lynn Johnson from the Pekin Outreach Initiative. Nine people won prize packages valued at over $300 as part of the big year end door prize drawing: Dennis Short, Greg Ranney, Mike Hamilton, Rich Jordan, Mickey Shemansky, Melanie Riley, Nancy Morris, Linda Reader and Rhonda Hodges.  You can see pictures of all the winners and more at http://picasaweb.google.com/PekinChamber

Local High School to Win a SMART Board in 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
