Jesse White Honors Pekin Hospital

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White was in Pekin today to honor Pekin Hospital for dedication to organ/tissue donation.   An unveiling ceremony in honor of donor families and recipients was held near the hospital's main entrance.
Secretary White showed the Secretary of State’s organ and tissue donation commercial, highlighting Vikki Tulcus, a long-time advocate of the organ/tissue donor program, who now finds herself in need of a kidney.
Nationally, more than 113,000 people are currently waiting for organ and tissue donations. In Illinois, more than five million people have signed up for the registry, but 300 people die each year waiting for a transplant.  Locally, Pekin Hospital has been a leader in ongoing dedication and commitment to organ and tissue donation.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
