Tazewell County Genealogical & Historical Society February Meeting

The February meeting of the Tazewell County Genealogical and Historical Society will take place Tuesday, February 14th at 7:00PM at the Ehrlicher Research Center, 719 N 11th Street, Pekin.

Rachel Schwarzendruber, University of Illinois Extension Educator on Family Life, will present the program Who Gets Grandma's Yellow Pie Plate? - Transferring Non-titled Property .  Rachel will discuss important things to consider when making decisions about transferring non-titled property at death. 

Almost everyone has personal belongings such as wedding pictures, a baseball glove, or a yellow pie plate that have special meaning for them and for other family members. The transfer of non-titled property is an issue that impacts individuals regardless of their financial worth or cultural background. It is assumed to be unimportant or an issue that takes care of itself, so it is often ignored until a crisis occurs.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
