Tazewell County Genealogical & Historical Society October Meeting

The speakers for the October 11th meeting of the Tazewell County Genealogical & Historical Society will be the Father-Son team of Chuck & Burt Dancey.  Their presentation will center on the business and social life of the Pekin-Peoria area in the mid 1800s.  Chuck Dancey is the retired editor of the Peoria Journal Star where he worked for some forty years.  Chuck's son Burt is a local attorney with the law firm Elliff, Keyser, Oberle & Dancey, PC.  The 7:00 PM presentation will be followed by normal society business meeting.   For more information about TCGHS visit www.tcghs.org or phone 477-3044 or drop by the Ehrlicher Research Center at 719 N 11th Street.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
